Fantasy Premier League GW9 FPL Stats: Salah rewards backers with double-figure haul

Introduction

Mohamed Salah's (£12.7m) double-figure haul in Gameweek 9 was the highlight of a week that saw many of the top FPL players return points. Salah scored both of Liverpool's goals in their 2-0 win over Everton, becoming the first FPL midfielder to surpass 10 attacking returns this season in the process. The Egyptian's haul was his sixth in the opening eight Gameweeks, and he has outpointed the more popular Erling Haaland (£14.0m) in six of those matches.

Over 1.2 million Fantasy Premier League managers captained Salah in GW9, including the overall leader Sehar Bajraktaraj. Bajraktaraj extended his place at the top of the leaderboard thanks to Salah's 16-point haul, and he also benefited from transferring in his compatriot Konstantinos Tsimikas (£4.4m), who replaced the injured Andrew Robertson (£6.6m) in Liverpool's starting XI and delivered a six-point return.

In total, 30 managers among the top 100 entrusted their armbands to Salah, who has proved a shrewd differential pick in 2023/24.

Other notable GW9 FPL stats:

  • Erling Haaland (£14.0m) scored in Manchester City's 2-1 win over Brighton & Hove Albion but could earn only six points before any potential bonus.
  • Kevin De Bruyne (£12.0m) also scored for City, and he now has six goals and four assists in the Premier League this season.
  • Harry Kane (£10.2m) scored twice in Tottenham Hotspur's 4-1 win over Fulham, taking his tally to eight goals for the season.
  • Bukayo Saka (£8.0m) scored and assisted in Arsenal's 3-1 win over Chelsea.
  • Gabriel Jesus (£8.0m) scored a hat-trick in Arsenal's victory, taking his tally to six goals for the season.
  • Aleksandar Mitrovic (£6.8m) scored in Fulham's defeat to Tottenham, taking his tally to eight goals for the season.
  • Leandro Trossard (£6.7m) scored twice in Brighton's defeat to Manchester City, taking his tally to six goals for the season.

Overall, it was a good Gameweek for FPL managers, with many of the top players returning points. Salah's double-figure haul was the highlight, but there were also plenty of other big scorers, including Haaland, Kane, Saka, Jesus, and Trossard.

In-depth analysis

Salah's dominance

Mohamed Salah's dominance in FPL this season has been remarkable. He has the most points overall with 60, and his six double-figure hauls are more than any other player. Salah is averaging 7.5 points per game, which is the highest of any midfielder in FPL history.

The Egyptian's success is due to a number of factors. Firstly, he is simply a world-class player. He is one of the most talented forwards in the world, and he has a proven track record of scoring goals and providing assists.

Secondly, Salah is playing in a very good team. Liverpool are one of the best sides in the Premier League, and they create a lot of chances for their forwards. This gives Salah plenty of opportunities to score and assist.

Finally, Salah is very consistent. He has returned points in every Gameweek this season, and he has only failed to score in two matches. This is why he is such a valuable asset to FPL managers.

Haaland vs Salah

The debate over who is the better FPL asset between Mohamed Salah and Erling Haaland has been raging all season. Both players are world-class forwards, and they both have the potential to score big points.

However, Salah has the edge so far this season. He has more points overall (60 vs 55), more double-figure hauls (6 vs 4), and a higher average points per game (7.5 vs 6.9).

One of the main reasons for Salah's success is that he is more versatile than Haaland. Salah can play on either wing or as a central striker, while Haaland is primarily a central striker. This versatility means that Salah is more likely to start matches for Liverpool.

Another reason for Salah's success is that Liverpool are a more creative team than Manchester City. Liverpool create more chances per game than City, and they are more likely to score goals from

Not only is Maddison among the most-captained players for Gameweek 9 but, after Salah, he was the second-most bought midfielder ahead of the deadline, gaining 344,535 new owners.

Bruno Fernandes (£8.4m) also profited against statistically the worst defence in the top flight.
